At the workshop, Mr. Le Minh Hoan, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development spoke to discuss the goal of bringing Vietnam’s countryside towards the model of Ecological Agriculture – Modern Rural – Smart Farmers. Our country used to be one of the poorest countries in the 80s and early 90s with 60 population living below the poverty line. Thanks to the decision, Vietnam has basically escaped poverty, joining the WTO in 2017 and 17 Free Trade Agreements. Today, Vietnam has become an important contributor to world food security, exporting more than 6 million tons of rice per year, nearly 10 of the total global rice exports and the third rice exporter in the world. gender. Agriculture, farmers and rural areas are a solid foundation to protect the country in times of difficulty. We have overcome the most difficult periods until the East Asian economic crisis, the world financial crisis in 2010 or the current Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the countryside is a safe place to “return” to, ensuring livelihoods for workers.
Besides these important achievements, our country’s farmers are facing many challenges such as declining natural resources, concerns about quality, and increasing greenhouse gas emissions. In particular, agricultural output is an unsolved problem. To transform, the agricultural industry cannot stand alone, it needs the sharing and companionship of ministries, agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals at home and abroad.
Discussing Japanese organic agriculture, Expert – Dr. Sugiyama introduces the natural farming method of the agricultural philosopher Fukuoka since 1937. He is internationally recognized as a pioneer of organic agriculture, is the origin of this industry in Japan. The philosophy of Fukuoka aka Yuki Noggo applies the principles of nature, avoids the use of pesticides and chemicals, and promotes the connection between food and health. Year by year, Japanese natural agriculture sets each goal and achieves many achievements, such as improving mutual understanding among the three parties of farmers, users, and producers; reduce the amount of chemicals, food additives…
The Japanese government offers economic subsidies to farmers and supports obtaining certificates for qualified enterprises. Setting big ambitions in the 2020-2050 period, Japan is determined to bring agricultural emissions to zero; reduce chemicals, expand cultivation area, commit to only import raw materials of sustainable natural origin and maintain superior seeds.
In order to help and support Thai Binh agriculture to reach new heights, Mr. Chu Po Jung – Taiwanese speaker shared the idea of building an agricultural area to produce essential oils under the province’s own brand. According to him, Thai Binh possesses many advantages with fertile land, natural resources, abundant water, favorable climate and abundant labor resources. All of the above factors ensure the development of Thai Binh today and in the future. However, farming practices in the whole province are still inherent, science and technology has not played a leading role, and products have not been branded. In general, Thai Binh agriculture is at a basic level with no difference to become attractive.
Mr. Chu said that Thai Binh is suitable for the sustainable essential oil development model. The global essential oil market will reach 18.5 billion USD in 2020 and is expected to grow by 7.4% from 2021 to 2028. The market demand is high for the medical, therapeutic,…More Consumers increasingly prefer organic products and the health benefits of such products have been confirmed over time. The solution given is to develop the raw material area for essential oil production, combining tourism and production. To do this, the whole province needs to expand the scale of cultivation of existing plants used as essential oil raw materials, specialized material areas… Exploiting products including cosmetics, perfumery, production of washing powder, soap room. In particular, Thai Binh should classify flowers and plants by theme, region, and season to attract tourists to travel first and experience essential oil products. The reason for proposing this model, Mr. Chu pointed out, the essential oil economy does not require large investment or the facilities are too modern, and it is suitable for the climate of the land of “territorial genius”, the labor cost is suitable. fit. Because of the above reasons, essential oils will bring Thai Binh a completely new agricultural face.
