Main odor generating areas at the factory
During the operation of the industrial wastewater treatment system, the sludge tank areas, sludge separator and sludge storage area are serious odor generating areas. The main reasons are:
- The load of fat and protein in wastewater is high, easily decomposed anaerobically and produces odors.
- The process of collecting and storing sludge occurs continuously, creating an ideal environment for odors to form and spread.
Therefore, odor control in sludge treatment areas is essential to ensure environmental hygiene and ambient air quality.
Proposed solution: Spraying NEMA solution to deodorize on-site
In order to effectively control odors and maintain stable operation of the wastewater treatment system, the solution of using NEMA solution spraying system has been applied, including:
1. Automatic NEMA spray system
- Equipped with: Solution tank, metering pump and specialized spray nozzle.
- Spray location: Sludge tank and flotation area.
- Operating mechanism: NEMA2 solution is sprayed periodically or continuously, ensuring odor control right from the source.
2. Manual NEMA1 spray system
- Spraying by pressure pump, using NEMA1 solution from a central tank.
- Treatment location: Water sumps, leakage points and areas at risk of local odor.
- Frequency: 1–2 times/day, or according to actual needs, especially during times of strong odor.
- Benefits: Flexible, fast treatment, significantly improving the quality of the working and surrounding environment.
Experimental time and evaluation method
Implementation time: From 4:00 p.m. on October 7, 2022 to 9:30 a.m. on October 11, 2022 (total 3.5 day).).Evaluation method:
- Machine measurement: Using specialized equipment to measure odor concentration at key locations.
- Sensory: Actual assessment by operators throughout the testing process.
Results achieved
1. Significant reduction in odor
- Machine measurement results: The odor concentration in the sludge tank decreased significantly, especially when aerating – the point that usually causes the heaviest odor.
- Sensory assessment: After about 3 days of using NEMA1, the odor has decreased significantly. There is no longer a strong odor like before spraying.
2. The system operates stably
- The automatic NEMA spray system operates stably, without affecting the technical parameters of the wastewater treatment system.
- The treatment microorganisms are not affected during the solution spraying process.

Note: The evaluation of the long-term positive impact of NEMA on the microorganism system requires more monitoring time, but no initial negative impact was recorded.
Conclusion
The solution of treating odor in the sludge area with NEMA solution brings clear results after just a few days of application. The combination of automatic and manual spraying helps to treat odors at both fixed points and flexible points of origin.
This is an effective, safe and sustainable approach in the work of deodorizing industrial wastewater treatment areas.
