Ha Tinh Dairy Farm is a branch of Vietnam Dairy Cow One Member Co., Ltd. (VINACOW), whose mission is to raise dairy cows to meet the demand for supplying high-quality fresh milk to the milk processing factories of Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk).
The application of Genesis Carbon (Genesis Carbon), a technology from Japan, to dairy farms has overcome the bad smell and flies and mosquitoes from livestock farming.
Deodorizing with genesis carbon
In recent years, this farm has been one of the top livestock farms in Ha Tinh in terms of livestock farming processes, environmental protection and disease prevention. As for the responsibility of protecting the environment, this is a very sensitive issue, so it is of special concern to state management agencies and people in the project area.
To minimize pollution during the production process, Vinamilk Ha Tinh invested in an automatic manure and urine scraping system. Solid waste and liquid waste are separated. Solid waste is composted to serve grass growing while liquid waste is put into the biogas system for treatment. Every quarter, the farm contracts with the Ha Tinh Environmental Monitoring Center to monitor environmental indicators once and sends a notice to the relevant authorities and local authorities. According to Mr. Dau Phi Tu, Director of Vinamilk Ha Tinh farm, after being granted a certificate of eligibility for livestock farming, in order to improve the effectiveness of environmental protection work in and around the farm, Vinamilk Ha Tinh joins the system of Vinamilk dairy farms across the country to apply Genesis Carbon technology to overcome odors from livestock farming, reducing insects, flies and mosquitoes that can affect the surrounding environment. “In 2019, Vinamilk began testing this technology and found it to be very effective in treating odors, cleaning the environment, and limiting flies and mosquitoes. Vinamilk quickly deployed and widely applied it to all of its dairy farms both domestically and internationally,” said a Vinamilk leader. This person added, Deodorizing spraying using genesis carbon is done periodically not only in the barn area, but also for the entire farm area such as the cow playground, landscape areas, dining room, office building, etc.
Genesis Carbon will eliminate all odors and make the air environment fresh. Therefore, the problem of odors in the air at the farm is now almost completely resolved, the space of farms raising thousands of cows is always green, clean, and pleasant.
In particular, these are organic products that can be added to the cow bathing spraying system, helping to completely eliminate odors from livestock farming, keeping cow skin and hair healthy, contributing to enhancing the resistance of livestock.
The first farm to be granted a certificate of disease safety
After 9 years of operation, Vinamilk Ha Tinh farm currently raises nearly 2,000 dairy cows in a closed, high-quality process. Each individual cow is identified by an ear code, identification chip and an estrus alarm chip.
All cow statuses such as health status, estrus, reproduction, milk quality, etc. are recorded and transmitted directly to the herd control center every day through the antenna system installed in the barns and sensors on the milking rack.
With this specialized software, workers can monitor and check their health status and disease history from birth to the present. The software system is installed to automatically make a list of vaccinated cows, alert and check the health status of cows that have reduced chewing, reduced movement, increased conductivity in milk, etc.
Mr. Dau Phi Tu, Director of the farm, said that applying disease-safe and environmentally friendly livestock farming processes not only increases production efficiency and milk quality but also limits negative impacts on the living environment of people in the project area.
Currently, Vinamilk Ha Tinh not only applies genesis carbon technology to environmental treatment, but also uses a system of separating and pressing cow manure during the farming process, taking biogas to boil milk for calves, saving fuel and eliminating odors that do not affect the environment; using the manure after separation and pressing to fertilize corn and grass.
Installing temperature and humidity control equipment. Accordingly, through the temperature, wind speed and humidity sensor system in the barn, the showering system and cooling fan will automatically adjust the level, speed and frequency according to frequency variation (depending on each type of cow or calf). When the sprinkler system is operating, the cooling fan speed will automatically decrease or turn off completely to avoid water splashing into the cow’s feeding trough.
In tropical monsoon weather conditions, temperature and humidity in the barn greatly affect the health and milk yield of the cows. Therefore, the cooling work is always concerned and focused on, to always create a cool microclimate in the barn to meet the requirements and minimize the impact of stress on dairy cows.
In addition, the closed automatic milking system (including the automatic milking system of 64 cows/time, closed sanitation system, milk pasteurization vehicle) has also been digitized, automatically recorded, and transmitted data to the central machine room, serving professional work and more effective management.
Regarding the quality management system, Vietnam Dairy Cow Company Limited began to apply the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system at the farms from the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013. In Ha Tinh, it was applied immediately when the farm went into operation at the end of 2014.
The application of ISO 9001:2008 standard upgrades the version to ISO 9001: 2015 helps industrial-scale dairy farms better control the quality of input materials. All activities of raising, caring for, exploiting and preserving milk follow clear processes, standards, and work instructions, and all employees are trained before taking on the job.
“Strict control and management, uniform and increasingly improved staff capacity create the premise for increasingly stable output products. At the same time, this helps reduce product costs due to reducing defective products from the beginning and increasing profits thanks to effective application of production processes,” Mr. Tu emphasized.
At the same time, since 2015, Vinamilk Ha Tinh has also successfully implemented livestock farming according to GlobalG.A.P standards. This is a set of standards with strict requirements built to aim at the interests of consumers to use safe agricultural products.
Evaluating the disease-safe livestock farming and environmental protection of Vinamilk Ha Tinh, Mr. Tran Hung, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Ha Tinh said: “Vinamilk Ha Tinh is the first unit that we have granted a certificate of eligibility for livestock farming and disease safety according to the provisions of the Law on Animal Husbandry and the Law on Veterinary Medicine. This unit coordinates very closely and effectively with specialized agencies and local authorities near the farm in preventing infectious diseases in livestock and protecting the environment.”
