RICE – “A STRATEGIC FOOD CROP”
Rice (Oryza sativa) is one of the most important food crops in the world, providing the main source of food for more than half of the global population. Rice is grown mainly in tropical and temperate climates, especially popular in Asia, where there are long-standing rice civilizations such as China, India, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.
Vietnam is one of the world’s leading rice producing and exporting countries, with the main rice growing regions including:
- Mekong River Delta: The largest rice granary in the country, contributing the majority of rice export output.
- Red River Delta: The largest rice growing region in the country, contributing the majority of rice export output.
- Red River Delta: The largest rice growing region in the country, contributing the majority of rice export output.
- Red River Delta: The largest rice growing region in the country, contributing the majority of rice export output.
- Long-standing wet rice cultivation with high-quality rice varieties.
- Central and Central Highlands provinces: Rice cultivation on terraced fields and alluvial soil along rivers.
Thanks to favorable soil and climate conditions, along with advances in agricultural science, Vietnam’s rice industry is increasingly developing, contributing to ensuring food security and increasing export value. However, besides the achievements, wet rice cultivation also faces many major challenges. Continuous rice cultivation, lacking sustainable land management measures, leads to soil degradation and reduced fertility. Long-term abuse of chemical fertilizers causes imbalance in the soil ecosystem, pollutes the environment and affects product quality. In many coastal areas, saltwater intrusion is becoming increasingly serious, especially under the impact of climate change, making rice cultivation difficult. In addition, soil acidification is also a difficult problem, reducing rice productivity and quality. Solving these problems requires sustainable and environmentally friendly farming solutions.
In this context, the application of advanced, environmentally friendly technological solutions to rice cultivation becomes extremely important. One of those solutions is to use the product Organic Carbon Nema2, a product that has been tested effectively by the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute and has been applied effectively in rice fields with good results.
8 BENEFITS OF ORGANIC CARBON FOR RICE
Increase germination rate: Soaking seeds in Nema2 solution helps increase germination ability, making seedlings stronger right from the beginning of the season.

Develop strong roots: Plant roots are nearly 20% longer, helping to absorb nutrients well and withstand harsh weather.

Reduce Pests and diseases: Rice using Nema2 has a significantly lower rate of leaf burn and pests.

Increased chlorophyll index (SPAD): Rice plants are greener, with stronger photosynthetic capacity at all growth stages.

Reduce lodging rate: Stiff stems and strong roots help plants stand firmly, especially effective at low sowing density.

Increased yield: Yield was 15% higher than the control, even when reducing fertilizer.

Soil improvement and environmental friendliness: Ingredients from organic carbon help loosen the soil, develop beneficial microorganisms, towards green growth and low emissions.
Increase economic efficiency: Reduce fertilizer costs, increase productivity and quality of agricultural products, helping farmers earn higher profits.

The Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute is a public scientific unit under the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and is one of the leading units in researching and developing specialty rice varieties currently on the market.
In the last summer-autumn crop, JVSF cooperated with the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute to conduct the experiment “Evaluating the impact of NEMA2 on the growth, development and yield of rice”, the experiment used the OM 5451 variety bred by the Institute and was carried out in the summer-autumn crop in O Mon district, City. Can Tho.

Experimental field at the Rice Research Institute – Can Tho
Each stage in the growth and development of rice plants contributes significantly to the final yield component. To clearly see the impact of Nema2 in each stage, the experiment was arranged with 4 treatments and 3 replications corresponding to 2 farming methods. The plots are evenly spaced to ensure objectivity in terms of water source, weather and soil.

Implementation methods
The difference from the control experiment is adding #Nema2 in the early stages of soil preparation and seed soaking. After 2-3 days of soaking and incubating the rice seeds with Nema2 solution, the germination rate is higher, the root system develops faster (quantity and length). The rice seedlings have important premises to continue developing in the next stages. The image below of the root system at the maximum growth stage of the plant will show more clearly the outstanding development when using Nema2.
The root system corresponds to 25NSS, 45NSS, 60NSS and 75NSS. The difference from the control experiment is that #Nema2 is added in the early stages of soil preparation and seed soaking. After 2-3 days of soaking and incubating rice seeds with Nema2 solution, the germination rate is higher, the root system develops faster (quantity and length). The rice seedlings have important premises to continue developing in the next stages. The image below of the root system at the peak growth stage of the plant will show more clearly the outstanding development when using Nema2.
Comparison of the root system of the Rice plant
During the growth process of the rice plant, the Rice Institute used scientific measurement solutions, the results showed that: the rate of pests and diseases, leaf blight affecting the rice using Nema2 was less, the chlorophyll index (SPAD) of the leaves using Nema2 was always higher. In particular, the difference in the length of rice roots in both cultivation methods is clearly visible. Nema2 gives stronger and nearly 20% longer roots than normal rice.
Comparison of indicators on wet rice plants
Because the plant has a deep root system that helps increase its resistance to adverse weather conditions, combined with the stiffness of the rice stem, the lodging rate in the area applying Nema2 is significantly reduced, nearly 50% lower than rice without Nema2, especially at low sowing density, the plant almost does not fall over.

In terms of yield, low sowing density using advanced farming methods combined with Nema2 gives the best results in all indicators. With traditional farming methods (common in the Mekong Delta), the T4 treatment using Nema2 but reducing the amount of fertilizer has a yield 15% higher than the T3 treatment not applying Nema2 (but using more fertilizer). This leads to a significant increase in economic efficiency when applying Nema2.

Yield comparison chart
Close, scientific experiments in Vietnam rice, as well as large-scale experiments on organic fields in Quang Tri, Long An, Kien Giang… have created solid databases and science, affirming that Nema2 with its organic carbon atom composition has helped improve the soil, support growth and development development of rice plants throughout the process, bringing about efficiency in yield and economic efficiency. These results help farmers in the Mekong Delta have a fundamental solution to achieve a specialized area of high-quality, low-emission rice associated with green growth.
Hoa Nang Agricultural Products Joint Stock Company – Hoa Nang Organic is a company that produces organic rice as its main product, certified organic by Control Union (a Dutch certification company) in accordance with USDA and European organic standards, including not using pesticides or herbicides and only using organic products, while applying integrated pest control measures using natural methods. Therefore, this is also one of the prestigious organic agricultural brands, with high-quality standard organic products.

Summer-Autumn rice growing area at Hoa Nang Farm
To prepare for the Summer-Autumn crop, JVSF engineers conducted a survey and measured the soil quality and water source of the land to come up with a plan and appropriate dosage of Nema2. The results showed that soil pH ranged from 5.6 to 6.2, the water system used to irrigate the fields was taken from available canal water sources, water pH ranged from 6.78 to 6.8, it can be seen that the soil and water quality here is quite good. This is a very favorable condition for selecting plots of land to apply Nema2 and compare them.

JVSF engineers conduct field surveys with specialized machinery
Unlike conventional farming, Nema2 will be added at the initial stage of soil preparation and rice seed soaking. Use available mechanical tools to ensure that Nema2 is evenly sprayed into the soil and plowed 3 – 5 days before sowing. Seeds are also soaked and incubated with Nema2 according to the usual process and sown by Drone on the entire field.
Monitoring and evaluation are carried out according to each important stage of rice development, random sampling is performed at many different points in the rice field to ensure objectivity and accuracy.

55 days after sowing, this is when the plant reaches its maximum panicle formation, at this stage the growth index of the root system and the height of the rice stem need the most attention, the results show that the length and volume of the root system with Nema2 have a difference easily visible to the naked eye. The root system when dried and measured in weight showed this difference more clearly.

Image of the root system when fresh and dry
In the next stage when the rice flower was ripe, 2 days before harvest, JVSF engineers collected samples for analysis to compare the yield, grain firmness as well as the mass of solid grain to know the actual yield that the rice brought.

Grain weight charts between rice with Nema2 and normal rice usually.
With the above results objectively performed by Hoa Nang Farm, Nema2 once again shows its ability to help plants develop right from the early stages of the growth period, helping the root system develop exceptionally, improving the ability to absorb nutrients from the soil, the stem is more sturdy along with the deep root system helping the plant to withstand adverse weather.
Along with that, rice applied with Nema2 has the ability to synthesize high starch, the rate of empty grains is significantly reduced, thereby increasing actual yield, economic efficiency is also superior to the cost incurred.
Synthesizing data from Hoa Nang farm, it can be assessed that NEMA2 helps rice plants achieve extremely good criteria.
